El Salvador advances economic and sports modernization initiatives

El Salvador is implementing several strategic initiatives to bolster its economy, infrastructure, and sports sector. The government and the Salvadoran Football Federation (FESFUT) have partnered with FOX Central America to broadcast the Liga de Ascenso across the region for the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 seasons, aiming to professionalize second-tier clubs and increase regional exposure.

On the economic front, the country is preparing for TradeExpo 2026, a multisectoral event scheduled for October 12–13 in San Salvador. Organized by Invest in El Salvador and CAMARASAL, the expo seeks to connect local exporters with international investors following a 4.1% increase in exports during the first half of 2026.

Additionally, efforts are underway to modernize national port infrastructure in Acajutla and La Unión to improve maritime connectivity and logistics. In the private sector, business expansion is noted in the food import industry, with new operations targeting the supply of grains from South America and produce from Mexico to stabilize the domestic market.
