El Salvador approves $50 million loan for new Economic Census

El Salvador's Legislative Assembly has approved a loan of up to $50 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to fund a new Economic Census, scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2027. The project, which will be executed by the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), aims to modernize the nation's statistical systems through digital tools, enhanced cybersecurity, and the inclusion of data regarding the informal economy.

In addition to the census, legislators approved a tax exemption for $1.3 million in humanitarian aid intended for 600 former employees of Impression Apparel Group. This aid will be managed by the Organization of Salvadoran Women for Peace (ORMUSA).

Separately, economic projections for El Salvador indicate a growth increase to 3.9% for the third quarter of 2026, alongside a projected low inflation rate of 2.5% by the end of that year.
