El Salvador begins construction on San Miguel–Morazán power line
El Salvador has officially broken ground on the 115 kV San Miguel–Morazán transmission line project. The ceremony took place in the community of Los Ranchos, located in the Miraflores canton of San Miguel Centro.
Led by the state electricity transmission company ETESAL, the project includes the construction of the Morazán substation, which is already underway. The new transmission line will feature fiber optic guard cables to interconnect substations and facilitate communication between them.
ETESAL President Edwin Núñez stated that the project is designed to increase electricity supply capacity and reliability in the eastern region of the country. The infrastructure aims to improve voltage regulation and service stability in Morazán, San Miguel, and La Unión, while providing new connection points for both distributors and generators to support economic growth.
