El Salvador customs chief leads regional port forum to boost logistics

The El Salvador Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Camarasal) hosted the "Encuentro Portuario del Triángulo Norte: Conectando Puertos, Impulsando Competitividad Regional" in San Salvador. The event gathered officials and logistics leaders from the main ports of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to discuss ways to strengthen regional trade.

Customs Director General Benjamín Mayorga presented the "Customs 2026" agenda, outlining technological upgrades intended to speed import‑export procedures, tighten controls and improve competitiveness across Central America. Camarasal president Jorge Hasbún Escobar emphasized the need for coordinated port and customs improvements, noting that efficient logistics are essential for the region’s ability to compete in global markets.

Panel discussions addressed the impact of geopolitical tensions on supply chains, recent advances in customs modernization, and strategies for tighter coordination among ports. Participants included representatives from Fast Cargo, American Logistics Group, ZIM‑Trilog and other logistics firms, reflecting broad private‑sector support for the integration effort.
