El Salvador customs recognized for AI-driven risk management
The Directorate General of Customs in El Salvador was honored by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) for its advances in customs risk management using artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics. The award highlights the agency’s digital transformation strategy, which aims to make clearance procedures faster, improve security of the logistics chain and allocate resources more efficiently.
Director General Benjamin Mayorga explained that AI tools and data‑driven analysis enable more precise targeting of high‑risk shipments while facilitating legitimate trade, aligning El Salvador’s customs practices with international standards.
The recognition was part of SECO‑WCO’s Global Trade Facilitation Programme, which also noted progress in other participating countries, underscoring El Salvador’s commitment to modernising its customs administration.
