El Salvador economic growth and mortgage rates show positive trends
Economic projections for El Salvador indicate robust growth, with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL) forecasting a 4.5% expansion in 2026 and 4.1% in 2027. These figures exceed the regional averages for both Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the Central American subregion.
Simultaneously, the Salvadoran real estate and credit markets are seeing a decline in borrowing costs. According to the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), average mortgage interest rates fell to 7.70% in September 2026, down from 8.00% in August. Long-term business financing rates saw a significant reduction, dropping from 12.97% to 9.12% during the same period, signaling improved credit accessibility for corporate investment and consumers.
