El Salvador exports hit decade high while Belize exports decline
El Salvador’s export sector has achieved its second-highest revenue in a decade, generating $4,036.7 million between January and July 2026. This represents a 4.4% year-over-year increase. Shipment volume also reached a historic record for the 2017–2026 period, rising 10.7% to 2,447.7 million kilograms. While the United States remains the primary destination, accounting for 32.8% of exports, the country is seeing significant growth in other markets, including Mexico, Canada, and China.
In contrast, Belize experienced a sharp decline in domestic exports in July, which fell 37.2% to $38.5 million. This downturn was primarily driven by a significant drop in sugar sales, with earnings falling from $35.8 million to $17.0 million. Other sectors in Belize, such as citrus and marine products, also saw declines. However, some categories like bananas and cattle exports showed slight increases, and Mexico emerged as a growing market for Belizean cattle and soybean oil.
