El Salvador hit by intense storms and heat as tropical wave moves through

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) warned that a tropical wave will bring intense thunderstorms, strong winds and very high temperatures to El Salvador over the weekend. Forecasts call for scattered to heavy rain with lightning across the northern, eastern and volcanic zones, gusts reaching 40 km/h, and daytime highs up to 38 °C (100 °F) in the east, while most of the country will see temperatures between 33‑37 °C (91‑99 °F). The storm system is expected to shift westward on Sunday, affecting central and western regions later in the day.

Authorities in San Salvador are monitoring the situation, urging residents to stay informed, avoid flood‑prone areas and heed civil protection directives. The municipal sanitation team has intensified cleaning of clogged drains on key avenues to reduce flood risk as the heavy rains arrive. The marine conditions remain suitable for tourism and fishing, but return currents persist along the coast.
