El Salvador International Airport implements new security protocols

El Salvador’s San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez International Airport has launched a modernization project to streamline passenger transit and enhance security. The Executive Commission for Port Authority Autonomous (CEPA) has implemented a centralized security checkpoint for gates 2 through 6. This new system allows travelers to complete inspection once at a main area equipped with advanced X-ray machines and metal detectors, rather than undergoing repeated checks at individual boarding gates.

The overhaul includes infrastructure upgrades across 14 passenger lounges, featuring improved lighting, seating, and flooring. To optimize movement, the airport has installed glass partitions to separate arriving and departing passenger flows. These changes aim to reduce wait times and allow passengers to access dining and shopping services within the terminal more freely.

The modernization efforts comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) standards. Future expansion plans for the airport include the construction of six new lounges in the eastern sector and a four-level parking structure.
