El Salvador Legislative Assembly interviews candidates for National Council of the Judiciary
The Political Commission of the Legislative Assembly in El Salvador has advanced the selection process for new members of the National Council of the Judiciary (CNJ). During the sixth session of interviews, six candidates proposed by the General Prosecutor's Office (FGR), the Human Rights Ombudsman (PDDH), and the General Procurator's Office (PGR) were evaluated.
The candidates, consisting of three primary members and three alternates, will serve terms from September 22, 2026, to September 21, 2031. Among the primary candidates is Josué Nehemías Caballero Ábrego, a career prosecutor who proposed strengthening judicial performance evaluations through technical audits and modernizing training processes. Also interviewing for a primary position was Miguel Ángel Calero Angel, the current president of the CNJ, who presented an accountability report regarding his management.
