National Council of the Magistracy confirms five Supreme Court justices
The National Council of the Magistracy (CNM), chaired by President Luis Abinader, has confirmed five justices of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) for a new seven-year term following a performance evaluation. The ratified magistrates are Justiniano Montero Montero, Fran Euclides Soto Sánchez, Anselmo Alejandro Bello Ferreras, Samuel Amaury Arias Arzeno, and Rafael Vásquez Goico.
This decision increases the number of vacancies in the Supreme Court to six. These openings include the court's presidency, as current president Luis Henry Molina declined to be evaluated for another term. Two other evaluated magistrates, Francisco Antonio Jerez Mena and Vanessa Acosta Peralta, were not ratified.
The CNM has opened the selection process for the remaining vacancies. Third-party candidate proposals must be submitted by September 10, while direct self-nominations are accepted until September 15. The tentative date for the swearing-in of the newly selected justices is October 23.
