El Salvador's MOP Deploys 15,000 Resources for August Vacation Road Safety

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) of El Salvador announced a road‑safety device for the August vacation period that will mobilise more than 15,000 personnel, police officers and soldiers. The plan includes vehicle checks, speed monitoring and anti‑drug testing on main highways and tourist routes, as well as inspections of public‑transport tariffs, unit conditions and user safety, as noted by Vice‑minister Nelson Reyes.

From 1 August to 9 August cargo trucks are prohibited from travelling between the Utila roundabout and Surf City (and from Playa Río Mar) between 05:00 h and 22:00 h. Minister Romeo Rodríguez warned, “If someone will drink, they must not drive a vehicle.”

A free 24‑hour roadside‑assistance service, MOP Te Asiste, will operate nationwide from 27 July to 9 August. Drivers can obtain help by calling 2510‑0199, provided they have valid traffic documentation. The operation is coordinated with the National Civil Police and the Armed Forces.
