El Salvador National Stadium reaches 75% completion

Construction of the new El Salvador National Stadium in Antiguo Cuscatlán has reached 75% completion. President Nayib Bukele reported the progress, noting the facility is intended to be one of the largest and most modern sports venues in Central America.

To accelerate the project, China is increasing its workforce. Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yanhui announced that between 300 and 400 additional Chinese workers will arrive in October to join the approximately 300 currently on-site. The project currently employs around 600 Salvadoran workers.

Logistical milestones include the arrival of 50,000 seats at the port of Acajutla this weekend. The stadium, built by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), will feature VIP and VVIP areas along with advanced security and access control systems.

While the official contractual deadline for completion is July 2027, officials are working to expedite the timeline. Ambassador Zhang indicated the venue could be usable by February 2027, with a potential delivery between April and May of that year.
