El Salvador opens $12.6M specialized medical center in San Salvador

El Salvador’s Ministry of Health has inaugurated the Specialized Center for Non-Communicable Diseases (CENT) in San Salvador. The $12.6 million facility is located in the Zacamil area, strategically positioned near the Zacamil National Hospital and the ISSS Polyclinic to bridge the gap between primary care and emergency hospital services.

Operating with nearly 100 health professionals, including specialists, nutritionists, and psychologists, the center provides diagnostic and therapeutic services for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, and oncology. Patients will access the facility through digital referrals via the Integrated Health System (SIS).

In conjunction with the opening of CENT, the government announced significant upgrades to the national oncology network. This includes an $8 million renovation of the National Radiotherapy Center (CNRT), which adds a third linear accelerator and surface-guided radiation therapy (SGRT), as well as the deployment of the public sector’s first $4.65 million PET-CT unit.
