El Salvador police seize marijuana shipments at Ahuachapán border and in San Salvador area

El Salvador’s National Civil Police (PNC) and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) carried out several drug‑related operations in late June 2026. In the border town of Ahuachapán, agents stopped a vehicle at the Las Chinamas checkpoint and discovered a hidden compartment under the seats containing 25 large portions of marijuana, two mobile phones and cash. The 32‑year‑old driver, José Ángel A. G., was arrested and will face trafficking charges.

Separate raids in the capital department led to the capture of a 24‑year‑old man in Soyapango with marijuana, cash and electronic scales, as well as the detention of multiple adults and a teenager in La Libertad who were found with kilograms of marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine and related equipment. Additional sweeps of commercial centers in San Salvador, Apopa, Soyapango and Santa Tecla resulted in the arrest of a man accused of promoting marijuana use and the seizure of pipes, grinders and scales. The authorities say investigations are ongoing and more arrests may follow.
