El Salvador poll shows public backing for a more balanced legislature, says Karina Sosa

Karina Sosa, a deputy from the FMLN and a pre‑candidate for the Legislative Assembly, cited a recent La Prensa Gráfica poll indicating growing public desire for a more balanced parliament. While 42 % of respondents preferred a legislature dominated by the governing party, 37.3 % favored a balanced assembly and 9.8 % wanted an opposition majority, together representing 47.1 % who seek change.

Sosa interpreted the figures as a sign of dissatisfaction with the current Assembly’s alignment with the executive, noting that citizens view the body as largely subordinate and lacking effective oversight. She also highlighted complaints about excessive municipal fees in rural areas, arguing that these issues reinforce calls for broader political representation and stronger legislative independence.
