El Salvador President Bukele Announces Five‑Line Aerocable Transit Phase

President Nayib Bukele confirmed that the first phase of El Salvador’s new aerial cable‑car public‑transport system will comprise five lines. The initial line will link the municipality of Mejicanos with Hospital Rosales, covering the route in about 14 minutes and is expected to move more than 30,000 passengers daily during 18‑hour operations. Five of the 23 planned towers for this line have already been installed.

Additional lines in the first phase will serve Soyapango, with one heading toward El Boquerón and another from Los Planes de Renderos to Panchimalco. Cabins are equipped with video surveillance, operator communications, and spaces for people with reduced mobility. The system will run entirely on electric power, feature anti‑seismic design, and stations will have custom architecture and elevators to ensure universal access.
