El Salvador President Bukele Opens Free Hospital Rosales
On June 1, President Nayib Bukelle marked the seventh anniversary of his administration by inaugurating the new Hospital Rosales in San Salvador, replacing his customary speech with a live broadcast of the opening ceremony. The third‑level public hospital will provide free medical care to all Salvadorans, funded entirely by existing tax revenues.
The facility features advanced services that were previously unavailable in the public system, including robotic surgery, a hybrid operating theater, and bone‑marrow transplantation. It will employ about 3,200 staff members—roughly 3,000 Salvadorans and 200 foreign specialists—and offer a wide range of specialties from internal medicine to neurosurgery. Bukele emphasized that patients can receive consultations, medications, procedures and even cancer treatment without any co‑pay or insurance requirement, aiming to reduce waiting times and improve access to high‑complexity care.
The project, built with 100 % public funds, is presented as a flagship of the government’s effort to modernise the national health network.
