El Salvador receives $50 million IDB loan for economic census
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a $50 million loan for El Salvador to implement the “Economic Statistics Strengthening Program.” The initiative will be executed by the Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador (BCR) over a four-year period.
The program aims to improve the relevance, reliability, and accessibility of official economic data to support decision-making for the government, businesses, and citizens. Key components include the implementation of a new Economic Census, the modernization of statistical systems, and the adoption of digital technologies for data collection, management, analysis, and dissemination.
A significant focus of the new census will be gathering detailed information on both formal and informal economic activities, providing a more comprehensive view of the country's productive landscape. The IDB noted that the program is intended to strengthen the national statistical system and provide lessons that could be replicated in other Latin American and Caribbean nations.
