El Salvador records historic low temperatures in San Vicente
El Salvador has recorded a historic minimum temperature at the Puente Cuscatlán meteorological station in San Vicente. The station registered 14.6°C during the early hours of Monday, breaking the previous record of 17.0°C set in 1982.
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) attributes the drop to the influence of northern winds. Other low temperatures were reported across the country, including 10.4°C in Finca Los Andes, Santa Ana, and 11.0°C in Los Planes de Montecristo. In mountainous areas, temperatures are expected to reach as low as 9°C.
Northern winds are currently averaging between 15 and 25 km/h, with occasional gusts reaching up to 45 km/h, particularly in high-altitude and volcanic regions. The country is currently in a transition period between the rainy season and the dry season.
