El Salvador reports measles cases and rising traffic fatalities

El Salvador is facing two distinct public health and safety challenges. The country has reported 58 cases of measles distributed across seven departments. San Salvador has recorded the highest number with 33 cases, followed by San Miguel with 10. Among the affected age groups, individuals aged 20 to 29 represent the largest cluster with 20 cases.

Separately, road safety data from the National Road Safety Observatory indicates a rise in traffic accidents. Between January 1 and August 15, 14,087 accidents resulted in 907 deaths and 9,830 injuries. This represents a 22.9% increase in fatalities compared to the previous year. Motorcyclists accounted for 417 deaths, while 307 pedestrians were killed. The primary causes identified for these accidents include driver distraction, lane invasion, and failure to respect priority signals.
