El Salvador reports mixed results for 2026 vacation period

El Salvador’s National Civil Protection Commission released its final report for the 'Plan Vacación 2026' covering the period from August 1 to August 9. The report indicates a mixed outcome in emergency response: while road accidents and fatalities decreased by 17%, there was a notable increase in fires and injuries.

In terms of aquatic safety, officials reported 81 rescues, but no deaths occurred at public beaches. However, three drownings were recorded in other locations: one in a pool in San Miguel, one in a maritime accident in Usulután, and one in Lake Ilopango. Additionally, total fires rose by 63% compared to the previous year, with 49 incidents recorded.

On the economic side, the Ministry of Tourism reported that international visitor arrivals exceeded projections, reaching 95,000 travelers, up from 91,000 the previous year. The primary countries of origin were Guatemala, the United States, and Honduras. Popular destinations included various recreational parks, the Historic Center of San Salvador, and the National Library of El Salvador.
