Nayib Bukele leads Latin American presidential approval rankings
A recent survey by Global Data for August 2026 reveals significant disparities in presidential approval ratings across Latin America. El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele leads the region with a 68.7% positive image rating. He is followed by Mexico’s Claudia Sheinbaum at 66.5% and Peru’s Keiko Fujimori at 55.0%. At the lower end of the spectrum, Venezuela’s Delcy Rodríguez holds the lowest positive rating at 26.7%, followed by Guatemala’s Bernardo Arévalo and Panama’s José Raúl Mulino.
In Argentina, President Javier Milei faces high levels of disapproval, ranking 15th out of 18 leaders surveyed. His positive image stands at 35.1%, while his negative rating is 62.8%.
Parallel to these political shifts, El Salvador is positioning itself as a technological hub. The country is set to host the EmTech AI LATAM event in San Salvador this November, organized by MIT Technology Review. The administration has implemented measures to attract tech investment, including tax eliminations on technology investments and expanded digital infrastructure. Additionally, the Bukele administration’s security policies, characterized by the use of emergency powers to combat organized crime, have become a model that several other Latin American leaders are attempting to emulate, despite varying degrees of success in the region.
