El Salvador's ARENA party nominates first female presidential ticket

On 26 July, the Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (ARENA) officially announced its presidential formula for the 2027 election: Mayteé Iraheta as the party's first female presidential candidate and Verónica Henríquez as her running mate for vice‑presidency. The launch took place in the Flor Blanca neighbourhood of San Salvador during the party's internal primary day, with party president Carlos García Saade praising the historic candidacy.

Later the same day, ARENA deputy Marcela Villatoro declared her intention to seek a fourth term in the Legislative Assembly, filing as a pre‑candidate for the San Salvador constituency. Villatoro highlighted the party's smooth internal process compared with rivals and noted recent electoral reforms that altered the allocation of seats in the capital district.
