KIB-TEK employees launch general strike over safety concerns

The Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK) Employees' Union (El-Sen) has entered the second day of a general strike. Union President Ahmet Tuğcu stated that the industrial action is driven by unresolved issues regarding occupational health and safety, collective bargaining agreements, and a lack of transparency in the institution's financial balance sheets.

The strike follows a recent workplace accident at a transformer station that injured an employee, which union leaders cite as evidence of inadequate safety equipment and protocols. El-Sen has demanded that the KIB-TEK Board of Directors address these safety concerns and cease practices involving non-competitive promotions and employment efforts.

The protest has received support from the Cyprus Turkish Animal Breeders and Producers Union, which joined the demonstration at the KIB-TEK General Directorate. The union warned against the potential privatization of public institutions and criticized current management practices.
