El Tambo police station targeted in drone and rifle attack

The municipality of El Tambo in the Cauca department of Colombia was targeted by a drone attack on Wednesday, August 26. The assault began around 6:20 a.m. and focused on the local police station.

Reports indicate that between 18 and more than 20 explosions occurred as explosives were dropped from drones over the urban area. The attack was accompanied by rifle fire directed at police facilities. Preliminary information suggests that FARC dissidents may be responsible, though authorities are still working to verify the perpetrators.

The violence forced residents to remain indoors, led to the closure of commercial establishments, and caused the suspension of classes. While the situation caused significant disruption and fear among the population, there were no immediate official reports of deaths or injuries among civilians or police officers at the time of the initial reports.

This incident follows a similar pattern in the region; in July 2026, a police substation in El Crucero de Pandiguando, also within the jurisdiction of El Tambo, was attacked using more than 20 improvised explosives launched via drones.
