El Vendrell announces updates to waste collection and public lighting

The municipality of El Vendrell is implementing several changes to local urban services following recent operational challenges.

Regarding waste management, Mayor Kenneth Martínez announced a restructuring of the selective collection model to address deficiencies observed during the summer. A key change allows residents to use non-recyclable waste containers daily using their personal cards, rather than being restricted to two days a week. This change aims to prevent waste accumulation but will require increased collection frequency. The administration noted that future fiscal ordinances in 2027 may include bonuses for correct recycling, potentially resulting in higher tax burdens for those who primarily use non-recyclable containers.

Additionally, following pressure from the Xarxa Vendrellenca federation, the City Council has committed to installing solar lighting on the road section connecting the municipality to the C-51 to improve safety. However, the council stated that solar solutions are currently not feasible for the underpass due to specific technical conditions and recurring copper cable thefts. Local advocates continue to call for a permanent solution, such as a new protected copper line, to ensure safety in the vulnerable area.
