El Vinseum commemorates the centenary of the 1926 Penedès Art Exhibition
El Vinseum is launching a new temporary exhibition titled ‘Vilafranca 1926: l’embrió de la modernitat?’ at the Capella de Sant Pelegrí. The exhibition commemorates the centenary of the First Art Exhibition of Penedès, which originally took place in Vilafranca in 1926.
Curated by Pep Antoni Roig and documented by Martí Vallès Reyes, the project aims to explore the cultural impact and legacy of the 1926 event rather than simply reconstructing it. The exhibition seeks to create a dialogue between the past and the present, questioning the concepts of modernity and regional identity in Penedès.
On display are various artworks, documents, and objects, including pieces by Alexandre de Cabanyes, Pere Jou, Miquel Utrillo, and Joaquim Mir, as well as original stationery used to promote the historical event. The exhibition will remain open to the public with free admission until February 14, 2027.
