Elaine Vilar Madruga releases new novel ‘La piel hembra’

Cuban author Elaine Vilar Madruga has released her latest novel, ‘La piel hembra’, a work that blends magical realism with body horror, terror, and eroticism. The nearly 700-page novel explores themes of feminism, the reclamation of the body, and the preservation of memory.

The plot centers on a community gripped by a collective paranoia following a supernatural event where women, driven by an uncontrollable heat, return covered in gold dust and pregnant with what they believe to be messiahs. The narrative follows the resistance of a young woman against a climate of fanaticism, violence, and patriarchal control.

Vilar Madruga is recognized as a significant voice in contemporary Cuban literature, joining a group of Latin American writers often described as a ‘bloody new generation of women’ for their use of horror to address social and bodily issues.
