Elanco launches sustainable credit certification for Brazilian beef cattle

Elanco Saúde Animal has introduced the Eficiência Positiva+ Certification, a protocol designed for pasture-based beef cattle farming. Validated by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), the certification allows participating farms to access interest rate discounts on the Plano Safra program for both investment and operating costs.

To qualify, properties must implement the use of Zimprova, a narasin-based veterinary product. Research conducted in partnership with Embrapa indicates that Zimprova can reduce enteric methane emissions by 27% at a 15 ppm dose and by 34% at a 25 ppm dose. The certification aims to make the transition to low-carbon livestock farming economically viable by linking productivity and emission reduction indicators to favorable credit conditions.

Auditing and verification are performed by the independent entity SBCert. The process evaluates 13 operational criteria, including environmental management, animal welfare, traceability, and labor compliance. Certified properties are automatically included in the AgroBrasil + Sustentável platform to facilitate access to subsidized financing.
