EL.A.S. criticizes Greek government over fuel price management
Theoní Koufonikolakou, spokesperson for the Coalition of Greek People (EL.A.S.), has criticized the Greek government for failing to address rising fuel costs. She argued that the administration possesses specific tools to mitigate price increases but has chosen not to utilize them.
Citing proposals discussed by EL.A.S. President Alexis Tsipras, Koufonikolakou suggested several measures, including imposing a cap on refinery profit margins, implementing an extraordinary tax on refinery excess profits, halving the Special Consumption Tax within EU limits, and reducing VAT on fuel to 13%, similar to the model used in Spain. She further noted that Greece currently faces some of the lowest purchasing power within the Eurozone.
