ELAS criticizes Greek Ministry of Education over staffing and reforms

The ELAS party's education sector has issued a sharp critique of the Greek government and the Ministry of Education, accusing them of recycling unfulfilled promises and distorting reality regarding educational reforms.

Key points of contention include a projected shortage of 15,000 teachers for the upcoming school year. While the government has acknowledged a need for 45,000 credits and announced the hiring of 30,000 substitute teachers, ELAS argues this fails to address the systemic issue where substitute staffing reaches an unacceptable 30% of personnel.

The party also criticized several specific initiatives, labeling the 'multiple textbook' policy as problematic due to legal challenges and allegations of unfair competition. They further questioned the implementation timeline of the EduPlan AI digital platform and noted delays in the National Dialogue for Lyceum and the National Diploma.

Additionally, ELAS accused Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki of attempting to bypass judicial decisions regarding the re-introduction of private universities, calling it a 'major institutional blunder' that threatens the independence of judicial evaluation.
