Elías Jaua claims Venezuela has lost political autonomy

Former Venezuelan Vice President and Foreign Minister Elías Jaua has characterized the current situation in Venezuela as one of the most severe in the nation's republican history. Jaua claims that following a United States military intervention on January 3, the country lost its full capacity for political, economic, and financial decision-making.

Jaua expressed concern regarding recent announcements of an oil agreement with the United States, noting a lack of transparency and suggesting the deal may violate the Constitution due to being negotiated under coercive conditions. He noted growing discontent within Chavista sectors regarding this perceived loss of national independence.

On foreign policy, Jaua rejected any diplomatic rapprochement with Israel while the offensive in Gaza continues, instead calling for solidarity with Iran. He emphasized that while the government faces a crisis, the Bolivarian Revolution persists as a political consciousness and cultural identity that transcends specific administrations.
