ELAS party faces internal friction over communication strategy
Internal tensions are rising within the new ELAS political party, centered on the communication strategy and the conduct of its spokesperson, Theoni Koufonikolakou. Party members have expressed dissatisfaction regarding her management of media relations and her perceived “arrogant style.”
Specific controversial statements have fueled this friction. These include her July remark suggesting an ELAS government would enforce an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu if he were in Greece, as well as her positions on a proposed “patriotic contribution” and shifting stances regarding potential cooperation with PASOK.
Beyond communication issues, the party is facing a strategic divide between two factions. One group, favoring “experience,” advocates for utilizing seasoned politicians and former SYRIZA ministers to prepare for potential governance. The opposing group, favoring “renewal,” consists of younger members who hold reservations about this direction.
