Elassona declares emergency after uranium found in water

Four municipal communities in Elassona—Kalivia, Olympiada, Sparmos, and Pythio—have been declared under a state of Civil Protection Emergency following the discovery of uranium in the local drinking water supply.

The decision was issued by the General Secretary of Civil Protection to facilitate an immediate response and effective management of the water quality issues. Elassona Mayor Nikos Gatsas welcomed the decision from the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, noting that the declaration was a documented request aimed at securing a permanent and safe solution for the residents of the four affected villages. The municipality will continue to coordinate with relevant authorities to address the situation.
