Elazığ Governor investigates fatal shooting and arson
An investigation is underway in the Karakoçan district of Elazığ following the violent deaths of Ağa Üykü, 79, and his wife Hayriye Üykü, 72. While a fire was initially reported at their home in Ürünlü hamlet on September 8, autopsies revealed the couple had been shot with firearms before the house was set ablaze.
Authorities noted that several pieces of gold and valuables belonging to Hayriye Üykü were missing from the scene. Following an investigation by the Karakoçan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, three suspects—H. Ç., S. B., and F. A.—were detained. H. Ç. has been arrested and sent to Elazığ T Type Prison, while S. B. was placed under judicial control and F. A. was released after giving a statement.
Elazığ Governor Numan Hatipoğlu visited the family to offer condolences and stated that the investigation is moving quickly. He described the incident as a “brutal murder” and emphasized that law enforcement and prosecutors are working to uncover all aspects of the crime.
