Elazığ grape producers use tarps to protect 80,000 tons of harvest

Grape producers in the Keban Dam basin of Elazığ have implemented a massive protection effort to safeguard approximately 80,000 tons of crops against early autumn rains. To protect registered grape varieties including Öküzgözü, Boğazkere, and Ağın Beyazı, farmers have covered vineyards with kilometers of blue and white waterproof tarps.

The large-scale application, seen in villages such as Kıraç, Hoş, and Güzelyalı, aims to prevent quality loss caused by rainfall and to extend the harvest period. Producers stated that while this method has been used on a smaller scale in the past, the current scale is significantly larger due to the unexpected weather patterns. The goal is to maintain maximum product quality and continue harvesting through early December.
