Elazığ terrorist attack marks 10-year anniversary

Ten years have passed since the terrorist attack on the Elazığ Provincial Police Department on August 18, 2016. The attack, carried out by the PKK using a vehicle laden with explosives, resulted in the deaths of three police officers and injured 217 people.

The site where the police headquarters once stood has been transformed into a 'millet bahçesi' (national garden) to honor the martyrs, a space that was opened to the public six years ago. Local residents and survivors continue to visit the memorial site to offer prayers.

Survivors of the blast, including truck driver Abdulbasit Özdemir, shared their experiences of the day. The perpetrator of the attack was later neutralized during a gendarmerie operation in the Arıcak district in 2020.
