Elazığ volunteers serve hot meals daily to 300 needy residents

In the city of Elazığ, Turkey, volunteers from a range of professional backgrounds have organized a daily soup kitchen that provides hot meals to about 300 people in need. The effort is coordinated by the Elazığ İlahiyat ve Harput İlim Vakfı, founded in 2021 under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Veysel Özdemir.

The kitchen, known as Elazığ Aşevi and located in the Mustafa Paşa neighbourhood, is run by music teacher Ömer Zülfü Gürakar and his team. They identify families requiring assistance, deliver meals directly to the homes of the elderly and ill, and aim to strengthen a culture of solidarity across the community. Local donors and various occupational groups contribute resources to keep the service running.
