Elazığ Özel Medikal Hospital staff protest unpaid wages

Doctors and healthcare workers at Elazığ Özel Medikal Hospital in Turkey have staged a protest after failing to receive salaries for approximately two to four months. The financial crisis follows a series of legal and administrative actions against the institution.

In May 2026, a gendarmerie operation targeting the hospital, Eyşan Özgü Care Center, and Dünya Dialysis Center led to the arrest of nine suspects out of 23 detained. The investigation cited illegal practices, public loss, and unfair profit-making. Additionally, the facility had previously been fined over 47 million TL for the improper disposal of medical waste and drugs by burning them in private gardens.

Following further investigations into similar waste disposal methods across three branches in 2025, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change imposed a new administrative fine of 501,568,000 TL on October 7, 2026. These combined legal penalties and investigations have resulted in a severe liquidity crisis for the hospital.
