Elba Island hit by heavy storms and flooding

Heavy rainfall and intense storms hit the northeastern part of Elba Island on Sunday, October 18, causing significant flooding and disruption. The most severe impact was reported in the Cavo area within the municipality of Rio, where rapid precipitation flooded several sections of the seafront, specifically affecting the Vespucci and Kennedy promenades. These areas house numerous commercial activities that experienced major disruptions.

Other affected locations include Rio Marina, Bagnaia, Valle di Riale, and Nisporto. In Bagnaia, residents expressed concern as the local ditch reached its warning level. Civil protection teams, including off-duty personnel, were deployed to manage the crisis and restore safety.

Tuscany Regional President Eugenio Giani expressed solidarity with the affected citizens, families, and businesses. A yellow weather alert for thunderstorms remains in effect for the area until 10:00 AM on Monday, October 19.
