Elba's Le Fornacelle beach access road dispute prompts Tuscany intervention

The regional government of Tuscany has offered assistance to restore vehicular access to Le Fornacelle beach on the island of Elba. Regional assessor Filippo Boni sent an official letter to Rio mayor Marco Corsini proposing the creation of a technical‑institutional working table to examine solutions for the road that was demolished by a private party in October 2024, leaving the beach isolated. Boni highlighted earlier site inspections and repeated citizen and association complaints, stressing the road’s public‑use status and the health and mobility problems caused by its closure. Local officials, including regional councilor Marcella Amadio, welcomed the initiative, calling it a necessary step to reopen the vital access route.

The region aims to coordinate with municipal authorities and relevant agencies to evaluate safe and permanent restoration measures, signaling political consensus on addressing the long‑standing infrastructure gap.
