Elbasan hit by severe storm causing flooding and property damage

A severe storm hit the city of Elbasan and surrounding areas in Albania on Saturday, delivering approximately 60 mm of rainfall within just 30 minutes. The intense downpour caused significant infrastructure and property damage, including the flooding of roughly 30 homes and 20 basements.

Emergency teams and public services responded to the incident, using pumps to remove water from flooded buildings. Significant damage was also reported to vehicles parked in underground garages. The storm caused 10 trees to fall, obstructing roads, and led to flooding in agricultural lands and various rural roads within the municipality.

While the storm disrupted traffic and damaged property, no injuries have been reported. Public service teams have been working to clear debris from roads and restore normal traffic flow in affected administrative units.
