Elbląg launches mural competition for city anniversary

The Galeria EL Art Center has launched an open competition for a mural to commemorate the 780th anniversary of Elbląg receiving city rights. The project follows previous attempts to select a design, which were halted due to public criticism regarding the use of artificial intelligence in initial proposals.

The competition is open to artists, students, and graduates from across Poland. Participants can submit up to two projects for a wall measuring approximately 122 square meters located at Teatralna 6 in Elbląg. Submissions must include a visualization of the mural and a completed application form.

Entries will be judged on originality, artistic quality, the integration of Elbląg’s history with contemporary art, and how well the design fits its surroundings. The winner will receive a prize of 7,000 PLN gross. The mural is scheduled to be completed in 2026, with the submission deadline set for October 31, 2026.
