Elbląg Port prepares for larger vessels by 2028
The Port of Elbląg is undergoing significant infrastructure upgrades to accommodate larger ships. Current works involve deepening and widening the final section of the waterway on the Elbląg River. The project aims to reach a depth of 5 meters and an initial width of 20 meters, with a long-term goal of increasing the width to 36 meters.
In addition to the waterway improvements, a turning basin will be constructed to allow larger vessels to maneuver within the port area. While some projections suggested larger ships could enter by the first half of 2027, full completion of the works is currently anticipated for 2028.
The total cost for all investment stages related to port access is estimated at approximately 2.3 billion PLN. While the central government is responsible for sea access, local government authorities are managing the development of port infrastructure, including transshipment terminals. These improvements are expected to boost the local economy, particularly for industries such as turbine manufacturing.
