Elbphilharmonie celebrates 10th anniversary in Hamburg
The Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg is entering its tenth anniversary season. Since its official opening on January 11, 2017, the concert hall has transformed from a controversial construction project into a major cultural success.
While initial construction costs were estimated at approximately 186 million euros, the final cost reached about 866 million euros after nearly a decade of building. Despite the initial financial debate, the venue has become a landmark for the city.
By January 2027, the venue is expected to have hosted approximately 7.4 million visitors for 6,600 concerts and events. Additionally, the Plaza observation platform has seen roughly 29.5 million visitors. The Grand Hall currently maintains a capacity utilization rate of 96 percent.
