Elbphilharmonie Plaza to introduce admission fees in Hamburg

Starting Monday, the Elbphilharmonie Plaza in Hamburg will begin charging admission for access to its 360-degree viewing platform. The new fee is set at five euros for adults and three euros for discounted tickets.

The decision aims to relieve the city's cultural budget. The Hamburg Senate expects annual gross revenues of approximately 6.4 million euros from ticket sales. Previously, the city paid roughly 3.6 million euros annually to the operating company to maintain free access.

A small protest organized by Die Linke, which cited a 2016 promise by then-Mayor Olaf Scholz that the platform would remain a free public space, saw only about 20 participants. Despite the change, officials noted no significant surge in visitors ahead of the fee implementation, with recent visitor numbers remaining consistent with the previous year.
