Elche council prunes historic palm groves around Martínez Valero stadium
The Elche City Council’s Parks and Gardens department has begun pruning and cleaning the Don Porfirio and Doña Palmira orchards in the Travalón neighbourhood. The work aims to improve the condition of the historic palm groves and ensure safety around the Martínez Valero stadium ahead of upcoming festivities. crews are clearing ground‑level vegetation, trimming palms, removing dead trees and hauling the debris, using a crane for the taller specimens. About twenty municipal workers are involved, and the operation is part of a contract that will treat more than 6,200 palms in the city over the next five months. Councilor Claudio Guilabert said the orchards had not been maintained for years and restoring them is a priority, linking the effort to the recent opening of the Hort del Gat and other stadium‑area upgrades.
