Elche General Hospital launches support school for ostomy patients

The Hospital General Universitario de Elche has established the ‘Escuela de Pacientes Ostomizados’ (Ostomy Patient School) to support individuals living with an ostomy, as well as their families and caregivers. The initiative aims to facilitate adaptation to life after surgical procedures that create an abdominal opening for waste elimination.

Led by nurses Susana López and Patricia Moreno from the Urology and Surgery departments, the program offers training and emotional support. Workshops cover essential topics including stoma care, nutrition, physical activity, sexuality, and emotional well-being. The project seeks to provide a reliable information source and a communal space for patients to share experiences and regain confidence in their daily activities.
