Elche hosts 31st Medieval Festival and Misteri d’Elx

The city of Elche will host its 31st Medieval Festival, themed ‘Terra Regnum’, running from October 23 to November 8. The festival features a variety of music, theatre, and street entertainment throughout the historic centre.

A central highlight is the Misteri d’Elx, a sacroliric drama recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The performance, which uses song in Valencian and Latin to depict the Dormition, Assumption, and Coronation of the Virgin, will take place at the Basilica of Santa Maria. Rehearsals are scheduled for October 30 and 31, with official performances on November 1.

Other festival attractions include performances by the Elche Symphony Band and singer Blanca Paloma. The event will conclude with a Medieval Market in the Plaza de Baix and surrounding streets from November 5 to November 8, an attraction that drew over 200,000 visitors last year.
